Our Exhibitions
Our 2024 Exhibit:
inspiration: Renewal has many meanings, rebirth, regeneration, rejuvenation, revival, recharge, refresh and many more. The process of renewal is a natural force. We tumble through summer and fall, hibernate in winter, and emerge with new life in spring. Upcycling and mending, and making the old new again result in renewal. As artists, how do we express this? What images, colors or techniques represent the sense of fullness and vigor that renewal brings?
Past Exhibitions
2022
emerge: In 2020 and 2021, much of life was put on hold; daily life took on new restrictions. But during this time, we endured; we re-considered what is important; what can be left behind; what does the future look like? PAQA-South members have created works of fiber art to express the new ways of looking at our lives.
2020
insight: Each artist sees the world in a unique way, and communicates with a visual language that is at once universal and completely individual. What insightful and intuitive understandings of your world do you want to communicate to your audience? What penetrating mental vision or discernment are you striving to share? What actions do you wish to incite?
2021
going forward: In the spring of 2020, the world changed. Whether a dramatic shift or subtle alteration, everyone has been affected. What do you miss? How are you adjusting to present times? What is your vision of how we will live together going forward?
As the town of Cary, NC celebrates its sesquicentennial, we as quilters, we will look back at what was, make sense of the present and imagine the future.
2019
dreams. What did you dream last night? Was it a pleasant fantasy, repetitious drudgery or a nightmare? Nighttime dreams might evoke strong feelings or have iconic or archetypal interpretations. A dream can be a day dream, a pipe dream, a hallucination or a delusion. It can also be a vision of the future for yourself, your loved-ones, your community or the world. So dream up a quilt! We invite you to interpret the subject in art quilt form.
2022
inspiration: Where do artist’s ideas come from? What inspires them to begin the creative process? Is it something outside of themself like a person, a space, an experience, nature, urban life, music? Or is it internal like moods and emotions, philosophies, critiques? Does it reference an artist from the past or a cultural style or is it a continued exploration of the artist’s previous work? Create a multi-layered textile joined by stitching and describe the inspiration behind it.
